Underdark Parasitic Monstrosity

A horrific parasite that manifests itself as only a worm at first, that eventually grows into an enormous monstrosity of consumption, capable of adding any other biological organisms to its endless mass. Only their death or starvation will see their growth end, otherwise with each consumed creature the mass will endlessly grow.

Did You Know? In ancient times the Drow revered the Dargrith as ascended ones, and was a ritual given unto dying Kings and Queens in what was thought as a process that reserved them. This tradition eventually gave out after one such Queen ate her entire court, but some Drow still hold reverence over these creatures. Much to their own dismay at times.

CAMPAIGN INTEGRATION STARTERS:

• Fungal Affliction: Deep within the Underdark, a parasitic horror has taken root in the city’s vast fungal farms. This once-thriving network now teems with the writhing worms of the Dargrith, each consuming more life and spreading its corruption further. As the infection grows, so too does the chaos that threatens to consume the city. The party must find the source of this parasitic infestation before the entire city is swallowed by its endless hunger.
• The Abyssal Incursion: A rift to the Abyss has torn open in a forgotten cavern beneath the Underdark, spilling forth the ravenous Dargrith and its insatiable brood. Summoned by the relentless hunger of the creature, twisted aberrations now wander the once-peaceful cavern. The party is summoned by a faction of powerful drow to seal the portal and eradicate the infestation. To succeed, they must navigate through terrifying Abyssal realms and face down the Dargrith, whose mass only grows with every life it consumes.
• The Mysterious Curse: On the edge of the Underdark, a village lies under a strange and malignant curse. Crops wither, and the land itself rots, as the villagers fall under the sway of the parasitic Dargrith hidden beneath their feet. With strange whispers and unexplained deaths on the rise, the party is called to investigate. Delving into the earth below, they discover the parasitic creature at the center of it all. To lift the curse, they must confront the growing monstrosity and destroy the dark magic that feeds it.
• Drow’s Desperate Bargain: A faction of drow, in a bid for ultimate power, has made a dangerous pact with the Dargrith. Offering sacrifices and dark magic, they seek to control the parasitic creature to further their nefarious ambitions. The party, caught in a web of rival factions, must stop the drow from using the Dargrith’s endless hunger for their own gain. The fate of the Underdark hangs in the balance, as the creature’s insatiable hunger threatens to swallow all in its path.
• The Final Stage: As the Dargrith grows ever larger, its unrelenting hunger eventually becomes its undoing. Reaching a critical mass, the creature begins to break down, devouring itself in a desperate attempt to sustain its existence. The party must confront the Dargrith at the height of its madness, where its body is a bloated mass of consuming worms. In this final, horrifying stage, the Dargrith excretes its offspring by the thousands, though most will perish before they can continue the cycle. The party must stop this endless cycle of consumption before the Dargrith’s legacy devastates the Underdark and beyond.

At some point if left unchecked a Dargrith will grow so large that it can no longer support itself, as its hunger is unquenchable. It is here that the Dargrith enters the final stage of its lifecycle as it begins breaking itself down, eating itself to stave off hunger while doing irreparable damage to its own body. In this stage the Dargrith will begin excreting thousands of worms, its offspring to continue the cycle, though most will die before they get the chance.
